Dale Shirley Jr. 58 year old Woodward resident died Tuesday July 27 in at his home in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday July 31, 2010 in the Free Will Baptist Church with the Reverend Jay Custar officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Lewis Dale Shirley Jr was born February 7, 1952 in Crane, Texas; he was the son of Lewis Dale Shirley Sr and Joyce (Dull) Shirley Frey. As a child, Dale lived in Kansas and the family moved to Woodward when he was sixteen years old. He graduated from Woodward High School in 1971. He then attended Technical Vo-Tech in Denver, Colorado. On August 11, 1993, Dale was married to Janice R. Sanger in Las Vegas, Nevada. They made their home in Woodward. In 1977, Dale began working for Hickman Drilling and continued working there when the company changed to Unit Drilling, working there until the present time. Dale was devoted to his job and Unit Drilling.
Dale enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing, gambling and golfing and rock hunting with Janice. His favorite time was quality time spent with his family. He also enjoyed his hunting trips with his brothers and uncles in Arkansas. Dale loved OU football and was always seen with either an OU hat or a Unit Drilling Hat on.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vici.
Survivors include his wife Janice of the home; his mother Joyce Frey and Vernita Pearson Shirley; brothers, Mark and Dawn Shirley, Dwight and Alisha Pearson, sisters, Sandra Smith and Jon Morgan.; sisters-in-law, Linda Copeland, and Cindy Shirley; brother-in-law Craig Sanger; great nieces and nephew, Tristen and Gracie Wight, Tatum Sittner, Addison Morse, Brendan, Dwight Jr and Logan Pearson; nephews, John Finch, Bryant and Hillary Morse, Coty Morse, Luke and Katie Shirley; nieces, Dawn Wight, Megan Shirley, Denise Copeland and Carissa Copeland;
He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, two brothers Roger Shirley, Dennis Pearson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital with the funeral home accepting contributions.
