Evelyn Pettey, 70 year old Ft. Supply resident, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at her home in Ft. Supply. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2010 at the Ft. Supply Baptist Church with the Reverend Bill Tindell and the Reverend Ken McKinley officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Evelyn Maxine (Kornele) Pettey was born October 4, 1939 in Woodward, Oklahoma to John Henry and Viola Mae (Hawbaker) Kornele. She grew up at Bent Canyon north of Woodward. Evelyn attended Woodward schools and graduated from Woodward High School in 1957. After her graduation Evelyn served as a waitress in several different restaurants in Woodward. She was united in marriage to Leslie Dawson Pettey on June 16, 1959 in Woodward, Oklahoma. They made their home in Ft. Supply. Evelyn worked for 32 years at Western State Hospital as a Health Aide #3 until her retirement. Evelyn and Leslie renewed their wedding vows in Clayton, New Mexico on June 16, 1989.

Evelyn was a member of the Bible Baptist Church. Evelyn enjoyed taking care of others, especially babysitting. Evelyn enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching game shows, yard work and she loved being with her family. Evelyn has won the Blue Ribbon Yard of the Month in Ft. Supply. She was honored as the Prestigious Aide of the Year for the State of Oklahoma.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Pettey and wife Jamie of Ft. Supply, Steven Pettey of Ft. Supply; one daughter Deborah Lening and husband Mark of Wetumka; one brother Donald Kornele and wife Wilma of Ft. Supply; three sisters, Dona Mae Lucas and husband Alvie of Woodward, Norma Grunke of Woodward, Juanita Miller of Conroe, Texas; brother-in-law Collin Pierce of Freedom; sister-in-law Annie Kornele of Woodward; five grandchildren Kyle Lening and wife Jennifer, Alexis Pettey, Stetson Pettey, James Crawford, Lisa Druce and fiancee Daniel Cooper; and one great-grandchild Cash Jet Leaning. Evelyn is also survived by Leslie’s children who she helped raise, Richard, Gary, Robert, Donald and Karen and their families.

Besides her husband of 35 years, Leslie Pettey, Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, John and Viola Kornele, two sisters, Bert Hawkins and Dorthea “Dot” Pierce, two brothers Buck Kornele and Bobby Jean Kornele.
