Robert F. “Bob” Casteel, 85 year old Woodward resident, died Saturday, July 17, 2010 at the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Clinton. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Charlie Graves officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.

Robert Frank Casteel was born on June 30, 1925 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Leroy Frank and Bertha Beatrice (Knott) Casteel. Bob was reared in Earlsboro and attended school there. He was inducted into the United States Marine Corp in 1943 and served his country until being honorably discharged in February of 1946. Bob attended the University of Oklahoma and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business and Education in December of 1951. He was united in marriage to Bettie Louise Hoffman on April 13, 1949 in Norman, Oklahoma. They made their first home in Norman and were blessed with three children, Michael, Deborah, and Carol. Bob taught school in Bethel until 1953 when the family moved to Earlsboro. He operated a grocery store in Earlsboro until 1960 and then moved to Oklahoma City and went to work for Corn Products Company. In April of 1963 the family moved to Woodward and have been here since that time. Bob worked as a homebuilder until his retirement.

Bob was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was social chairman for the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity during his college years. Bob was President of the Woodward Builders Association. He was always there for anyone who needed help in any way. He loved his family and was a great Father to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Bettie Casteel of the home; one son, Michael L. Casteel and wife Cherie of Edwardsville, Illinois; two daughters, Deborah S. King and husband Nelson of Woodward, Carol A. Broadus and husband Chuck of Clinton; two sisters, Billie J. Rohrer of Oklahoma City, Barbara Ruth Warren of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, Suzanne Rivera, Robert Stephens, Melanie Sheppard, Rebecca Ruttman, Jennifer Vermillion, Kevin Casteel, Lauren Casteel; eight great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, two sisters and three brothers-in-law.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Faith Hospice or the Oklahoma Veterans Center with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
