Obituary for Travis Wayne Phillips

Travis W. Phillips, Sr., 73 year old former Woodward area resident, passed away, Monday, March 12, 2018 at his home in Enid, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Woodward. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Travis Wayne Phillips, Sr. was born on November 27, 1944 in Altus, Oklahoma; he was the son of James Travis and Virginia Eileen (Southal) Phillips. He grew up on the family farm southeast of Altus, Oklahoma and attended school in Humphery, Hedrick, and Altus. After he finished school, Travis worked at several jobs. He then moved to Woodward and began his oilfield career. After the oilfield slowed, he and family moved to California where he worked for the Local 12 Union operating heavy earth moving equipment. He then returned to Oklahoma to rejoin the oil and gas industry where continued working until his retirement in 2016.

He was united in marriage to Susan Kay Ritterhouse on July 28, 1970. They made their first home in Shattuck. Throughout his career Travis and his family moved to several location, before settling in Woodward. In 2010 Travis and Susan moved to Enid. Travis and Susan were blessed with 47 years of life together and they were best friends throughout their marriage.

He is survived by his wife Susan Phillips of the home; five sons: Travis Phillips and wife Jennifer of Woodward, Marty Phillips and wife Casey of Oklahoma City, Monte Phillips of Enid, Mic Phillips and wife Ela of Colorado Springs, Colorado, James Phillips and wife Suzanne of North Dakota; one daughter, Deanna Harris of Choctaw, Oklahoma; two sisters, Marilyn Hanson and husband Ron of Altus, Carolyn Webb of Altus; four brothers: Bobby Phillips of Long Beach, California, Andy Phillips of Altus, Timmy Phillips and wife Brenda of Garland, Texas, Tommy Phillips and wife Deborah of Edmond; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
