Angel Mata, 74 year old Father and Grandfather died Thursday, August 31, 2018 in Oklahoma City. Mass of Christian Burial with held at 10:00 am Friday, September 7, 2018 at St. Peter Catholic Church. A Prayer Vigil will be held at 6:00 pm Thursday, September 6, 2018 at St. Peter Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.
Angel Andres Mata, Sr., was born on June 17, 1944 in Hidalgo, Texas to Juan and Petra (Mendez) Mata. Angel attended school in Hidalgo. When he was a young boy his father died, Angel started working to help his mother provide for his younger siblings. Later in life he continued his education. Angel was united in marriage to Margarita Puente in Hidalgo, Texas where they made their home. Angel and Margarita moved to Arizona for a short time, before settling in McAllen, Texas where they started their family. Angel worked for Ranos Sandblasting for the next 20 some years as a sandblaster. In 1995 Angel and Margarita moved to Woodward when he retired, to be near family.
Angel was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church.
He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, his grandchildren brought great joy to him. Angel also enjoyed antique cars and motorcycles. He could often be seen riding around town on his trike he made with his favorite hat and shades on.
Angel is survived by his children, Peter Mata; and Angel Mata, Jr. both of Pampa, Texas; Juan Mata and wife Kimberly of Lee Summit, Missouri; Irma Sanchez; Nancy Rodriguez and husband Robert; and Tacho Mata all of Woodward; Gabriel Mata of Dallas, Texas; Mario Mata; and Maricella Barrones both of Hidalgo, Texas; Gwen Vasquez of Amarillo, Texas; Ashley Dominguez of Paducah, Texas; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Manuel Mata; and Freddy Mata both of McAllen, Texas; sisters, Mary Mendez of Paducah, Texas; Jovita Cornelio of McAllen, Texas; other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Margarita; and one son, Joe Mata.
