Barbara was born January 17, 1929, at home in Freedom, Oklahoma, to John David and Ruth (Walker) Hinton. At the age of eight months she was afflicted with infantile paralysis (poliomyelitis). With various surgeries, and with loving care she learned to walk, she lived a long and successful life. Barbara had a beautiful voice and sang for friend’s weddings and special events on station WKY, Oklahoma City. Growing up and on through life, people loved Barbara, for the sweet, kind person she was. She loved to laugh with happy people.

Barbara graduated from Freedom High School in 1946. She attended Northwestern State College, Alva, Oklahoma and received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Oklahoma Agriculture and Mechanics, Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1950. She was a member of Delta Sigma Epsilon and Theta Phi Beta. After graduation she was employed by the Veterans Administration in Stillwater and the Soil Conservation Service in Freedom.

On September 8, 1951, Barbara and John Matthew Bealmear were married in the First Presbyterian Church in Clovis, New Mexico. Two sons were born, Brad and Johnny.

She taught elementary grades in Morton, Texas for four years. The family moved to Portales, New Mexico in 1956 where her husband John became High School and Junior High Band Director. While working as secretary and librarian Barbara also was a much-beloved chaperone to many thousands of students in the award-winning PHS Ram Band on scores of trips across the state, the country and to Mexico. John Bealmear passed away July 25, 1987 while attending a band related event with Barbara and students in Denver, Colorado.

Barbara was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Portales and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Freedom, Oklahoma.

Since September of 2000, Barbara has been lived under Alzheimer's care on the ranch of her sister, Betty Selman of Freedom, Oklahoma.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruth Hinton, a brother, John David Hinton, Jr.

She is survived by her sons: Brad Bealmear and wife Holly of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Johnny Bealmear of Clovis, New Mexico; granddaughters: Bianca Bealmear of Levelland, Texas, Zoe Cauley of Seattle, Washington, Farrar Lannon of Brooklyn, New York; great-granddaughter, Eula of Seattle, Washington; her sister, Betty Selman of Freedom, Oklahoma; other relatives and friends.
