Obituary for Buddy "Bud" Martin

Bud Martin, 80 year old Woodward resident, died Tuesday, May 22, 2018 in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2018 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Fountain Cemetery, near Canton, Oklahoma.

Buddy Lee Martin was born November 14, 1937 in Canton, Oklahoma to Richard Thomas and Oleta Kathleen (Billings) Martin. Bud grew up in Canton and Seiling and graduated from Seiling High School with the class of 1955. Bud attended Southwestern University and graduated with his watch repair degree. While going to school, Bud worked on watches from his home.

He was united in marriage to Rosie Lee Cooper on March 27, 1961 at his sisters home in Seiling, Oklahoma. They made their first home on Apache Street in Woodward before moving to 21st street. Early in life, Bud worked for Wilcox Ford Motor Company in Seiling in the parts department. He then worked for the Oklahoma Tax Commission for 50 years, retiring from the Motor Vehicle Department.

Bud was a 41 year member of the Woodward Elks Lodge and he helped with the Woodward Elks Rodeo for many years. He loved helping at the Elks Rodeo and he enjoyed traveling with his close friend, Willie Thomas on many trips.

He is survived by his sisters, Laverne Hedges and husband Darwin of Seiling, Lenora Weber and husband Don of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Barbara McGaughey and husband Roger Mack of Pasadena, Texas, Gracie Lindsey and husband Sammy of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Shirley Ross of Plano, Texas, Ann Beaton and husband Bill of Scott City, Kansas and many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Richard Thomas Martin and mother Oleta Kathleen Billings Martin, his daughter Cindy who died April 15, 2008, one brother Richard Leon Martin and one sister Leta Joyce Martin and one grandson Joey Maples.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Diabetes research or the Woodward Elks with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
