Obituary for Denver H. Cox

Denver H. Cox, 78 year old Woodward resident, died Sunday, August 12, 2018 in Woodward. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Denver H. Cox was born June 13, 1940 in Donaldsonville, Georgia to James L. and Favette C. (Phillips) Cox. He grew up in Colquitt, Georgia and attended school there, graduating from Miller County High School. Denver was inducted into the United States Army in 1958. He served his country during the Vietnam War and earned the Good Conduct Medal with Bronze Clasp, Marksman in Rifle, Expert in Carbine, Marksman in M-1 rifle, two O/S Badges, and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served his country until being honorably discharged in 1967.

He was united in marriage to Tommy L. Briscoe in Comanche County, Oklahoma. They made their first home in Lawton, Oklahoma for two years before moving to Duncan and to Sharon in 1970. He worked for Chriswell Service, Christian Inc., Tidwell Construction, WellTech, Jeter Service, and Key Energy as a Oilfield Mechanic before his retirement. The family moved to Woodward in 2006 and have lived there since that time.

Denver enjoyed going to United and enjoying coffee with the United Supermarket Coffee Group. He loved being with family, his children, grandchildren, great friends and fishing. There is no doubt he is now fishing in Heaven.

He is survived by his wife Tommy L. Cox of the home; one son, Wade Cox and wife Jennifer of Yukon, Oklahoma; one daughter, Tiahni Mead and husband Jay of Woodward; three grandchildren: Madison Cox of Yukon, Jourdan Mead Thorne and husband Bryce of Tulsa, and Abbie Mead of Woodward; one great-grandchild, Vera Thorne of Tulsa; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Pete Cox and Charlie Cox.
